WHY ME?

SINCE GRADUATING FROM UNIVERSITY WITH A FIRST-CLASS HONOURS DEGREE IN FINE ART, I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY BUILT THE FOUNDATIONS OF MY CAREER IN THE ARTS SECTOR AND HAVE EXCELLED IN A RANGE OF POSITIONS WITH BOTH COMMERCIAL AND NOT-FOR-PROFIT ARTS ORGANISATIONS IN THE NORTH WEST. I HAVE A FANTASTIC IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF LOCAL VISUAL ARTS AND AM CURRENTLY WORKING AS AN ARTISTIC DIRECTOR AT THE ROYAL STANDARD.

AS AN ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, WHOSE WORK IS CENTRED AROUND GENERATING POSITIVE SOCIAL IMPACT IN CREATIVE COMMUNITIES IN THE CITY REGION, I AM IMMENSELY EXCITED BY THE POSSIBILITY OF WORKING AS GALLERY MANAGER WITH DOT-ART, AS THE INITIATIVES WITHIN THIS ROLE - SUPPORTING LOCAL ARTISTS, PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND BUILDING A DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE NETWORK OF VISUAL ARTISTS - MIRRORS THE DIRECTION OF MY WORK WITH THE ROYAL STANDARD.

I JOINED THE TEAM OF ARTISTIC DIRECTORS IN 2019, AND WORK HARMONIOUSLY ALONGSIDE THE OTHER DIRECTORS TO PROVIDE A PROGRAMME OF GRADUATE RESIDENCIES, WORKSHOPS, EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS. I REGULARLY ATTEND AND SPEAK AT ALUMNI AND INDUSTRY EVENTS, LIAISING WITH ARTISTS, ORGANISATIONS AND BUSINESSES, BUILDING AND MAINTAINING RELATIONSHIPS TO DEVELOP OUR CREATIVE NETWORK.

WITH AN UNRIVALLED DRIVE TO SUPPORT LOCAL EMERGENT TALENT, I LEAD ON THE ROYAL STANDARD’S GRADUATE RESIDENCY SCHEME, WHERE I AM SELF-RELIANT AND USE MY OWN INITIATIVE TO MANAGE COMMUNICATIONS, MARKETING AND ADMINISTRATION DUTIES FOR THE PROGRAMME. I BELIEVE MY EXPERIENCE PLACES ME AS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR THE GALLERY MANAGER ROLE, WITH A STRONG ABILITY TO MOBILISE OPPORTUNITIES FOR A WIDE RANGE OF REGIONAL ARTISTS.

I ORIGINALLY JOINED THE ROYAL STANDARD THROUGH THE GALLERY’S GRADUATE RESIDENCY SCHEME IN 2018. DURING MY RESIDENCY, I FOUNDED THE #DANST CAMPAIGN, AN INITIATIVE WORKING TO SUPPORT AND CHAMPION EMERGENT ARTISTS BASED IN MERSEYSIDE, THROUGH A PUBLIC PROGRAMME OF EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS. WITH A KEEN EYE FOR DETAIL, I APPLIED MY OUTSTANDING ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS TO MANAGE SCHEDULES, BOOKINGS AND MARKETING ACTIVITIES, WHILST INDEPENDENTLY HOSTING EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS. HAVING EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS HELPED ME TO CONNECT WITH A RANGE OF LOCAL ARTISTS AND RESIDENTS, BUILDING A NETWORK OF LOCAL ARTISTS, AND A NUMBER OF SUPPORTING PARTICIPANTS, SUCCESSFULLY EXPANDING PARTICIPATION FOR THE GALLERY, WHILST DEVELOPING NEW AUDIENCES FOR THE ORGANISATION.

DEMONSTRATING MY SKILLS IN CREATING OUTSTANDING PARTICIPATORY EVENTS AND BEING SOLELY ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE ORGANISING AND SMOOTH RUNNING OF THE #DANST CAMPAIGN RESULTED IN ME GAINING A DIRECTORSHIP ROLE AT THE GALLERY, PROGRESSING FROM ARTIST IN RESIDENCE TO ARTISTIC DIRECTOR IN UNDER A YEAR.

OVER THE PAST FOUR MONTHS, I HAVE BEEN WORKING AS VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR & VENUE SUPERVISOR FOR OPEN EYE GALLERY’S LOOK PHOTO BIENNIAL, MANAGING THE PLANNING AND COORDINATION OF OPEN EYE GALLERY’S VOLUNTEER AND SATELLITE PROGRAMME FROM START TO FINISH. BEING CONFIDENT AND HAVING A NATURAL ABILITY TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE, I SUCCESSFULLY RECRUITED AND TRAINED A COHORT OF 35 VOLUNTEERS TO WORK ACROSS DIFFERENT VENUES IN THE CITY. THE ROLE ENCOMPASSES A WIDE RANGE OF DUTIES, WITH A BUSY AND VARIED WORK SCHEDULE WHICH LENDS ITSELF TO MY ENERGETIC APPROACH AND ABILITY TO PRIORITISE AND JUGGLE TASKS, FROM NETWORKING AND BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY ORGANISATIONS, TO PRODUCING AND DELIVERING SESSION BRIEFS, TO BOOKING EVENT VENUES AND CATERING. I ALSO WORKED AS PART OF A SMALL TEAM INSTALLING OUR CORE EXHIBITION AT ST GEORGE’S HALL, AND WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR DESIGNING AN EFFECTIVE AUDIENCE FEEDBACK SYSTEM FOR THE BIENNIAL’S SATELLITE VENUES, WHICH SUCCESSFULLY EXPANDED THE ORGANISATION’S DATABASE AND CREATED AN ENGAGING PLATFORM FOR VISITORS TO INTERACT WITH.

I STARTED MY RELATIONSHIP WITH OPEN EYE GALLERY IN 2016 AS A VOLUNTARY GALLERY ASSISTANT. I WORKED ON THE FRONT DESK, WELCOMING VISITORS AND UNDERTAKING A RANGE OF ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES; SCREENING TELEPHONE CALLS, RESPONDING TO EMAILS AND PROCESSING PAYMENTS. DEMONSTRATING MY EXCELLENT PEOPLE SKILLS, PASSION AND DEDICATION TO THE GALLERY, I WAS RECOGNISED AS A VALUABLE AND RELIABLE TEAM MEMBER. MY ENTHUSIASM TO ENHANCE MY KNOWLEDGE AND LEARN NEW SKILLS LED TO A PAID MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP IN 2017, WHICH PROVIDED ME WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP A HIGH STANDARD OF ADMINISTRATIVE SKILLS, WHILST GAINING INTEGRAL EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH THE MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS TEAM. I MANAGED THE GALLERY’S SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES CREATING ENGAGING AND DYNAMIC ONLINE CONTENT AND DEVELOPED MY SKILLS IN PHOTOSHOP, INDESIGN, ILLUSTRATOR AND OTHER ADOBE PROGRAMMES. THIS INTERNSHIP ENABLED ME TO GAIN SKILLS THAT LED TO ME WORKING ON MARKETING CAMPAIGNS FOR HOME MANCHESTER, WALKER ART GALLERY, THE ROYAL STANDARD AND BLUECOAT.

DURING MY INTERNSHIP WITH OPEN EYE GALLERY, I ASSISTED WITH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS. BEING HIGHLY ORGANISED I SUPPORTED THE PLANNING OF EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS, LIAISING WITH PARTNERS, BOOKING AND CONFIRMING VENUES, TRAVEL ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING. MY FLEXIBLE AND ADAPTABLE APPROACH TO THIS MULTIFACETED ROLE ALLOWED ME TO EXCEL IN INITIATING AND DEVELOPING NEW INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL PARTNER ORGANISATIONS. THIS RESULTED IN ME BECOMING THE OFFICIAL CHAPERONE FOR SHANGHAI PRESS IN 2019, DURING THEIR REGULAR VISITS TO LIVERPOOL THROUGHOUT LOOK PHOTO BIENNIAL. FROM MY EXPERIENCE IN BUILDING AND MAINTAINING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ORGANISATIONS ACROSS THE UK AND INTERNATIONALLY, I AM CONFIDENT IN LIAISING WITH EXTERNAL ORGANISATIONS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES WHICH DEVELOP AND DIVERSIFY AN ORGANISATION’S CREATIVE NETWORK. I AM COMMITTED TO EXCELLING AND GROWING WITH EVERY VENTURE I UNDERTAKE, AND MY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH OPEN EYE GALLERY IS A GREAT EXAMPLE OF THAT. BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR INTEGRAL INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS IS A GREAT INDICATION OF OPEN EYE GALLERY’S TRUST IN MY PROFESSIONALISM AND ABILITY TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE, AND I PRIDE MYSELF IN MY EXTREMELY OUTGOING AND PERSONABLE NATURE.

FROM 2018 - 2019 I WORKED AT BLUECOAT AS AN ENGAGEMENT ASSISTANT. AS BLUECOAT RECEIVES AROUND 700,000 VISITS A YEAR, HAVING AN EFFICIENT AND PROACTIVE APPROACH WAS VITAL, I CONFIDENTLY MANAGED THE WORK-LOAD TO A HIGH STANDARD, WHILST KEEPING VISITOR AND STAFF SATISFACTION AS MY KEY FOCUS AT ALL TIMES. I MANAGED FRONT OF OFFICE DUTIES, BEING THE FIRST POINT OF CONTACT FOR VISITORS, PROVIDING INFORMATION AND ANSWERING QUESTIONS EITHER IN PERSON, VIA EMAIL OR TELEPHONE. I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROMOTION OF SERVICES, SUPPORTING CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT, AND ASSISTING IN THE DELIVERY OF ALL ASPECTS OF BLUECOAT'S EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS PROGRAMME. FROM MANAGING ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS, TO ASSISTING IN THE DELIVERY OF ALL ASPECTS OF BLUECOAT'S EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS PROGRAMME, MY ROLE WAS VARIED AND ALLOWED ME TO DEVELOP A RANGE OF COMPREHENSIVE AND TRANSFERABLE SKILLS. I AM ALWAYS WORKING TO MAKE OPERATIONS MORE EFFICIENT AND EFFECTIVE FOR ORGANISATIONS AND WITH A STRONG ABILITY TO MANAGE A RANGE OF ROLES IN ADMINISTRATION, MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS, I BELIEVE MY EXISTING SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE WOULD MAKE ME A GREAT ASSET TO THE DOT-ART TEAM.

EARLIER THIS YEAR I WORKED AS GALLERY AND SALES ASSISTANT AT LIVERPOOL ART FAIR, REPRESENTING DOT-ART AND HANDLING THE DAY TO DAY SMOOTH RUNNING OF THE LIVERPOOL ART FAIR SITE. I WELCOMED AND ASSISTED VISITORS, PROVIDING INFORMATION ON THE ART WORKS, WHILST ACTIVELY PROMOTING COMPETITION AND EMAIL SIGN-UPS TO DEVELOP THE DOT-ART CUSTOMER DATABASE. AS AN OUTGOING PERSON WITH STRONG COMMUNICATION SKILLS I BUILT AND MAINTAINED RELATIONSHIPS WITH CUSTOMERS AND POTENTIAL BUYERS; ENCOURAGING SALES, NEGOTIATING PRICES AND SETTING UP PAYMENT INSTALMENTS. I ALSO MANAGED ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES; FILING, ARCHIVING AND KEEPING AN ACCURATE AND COMPREHENSIVE RECORD OF ARTWORK THROUGH DROPBOX AND MICROSOFT OFFICE PROGRAMMES.

WORKING AS PART OF A SMALL TEAM, I UPDATED LIVERPOOL ART FAIR’S SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS AND CONSISTENTLY DELIVERED THE MOST EFFECTIVE SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITY THROUGHOUT THE FAIR; APPLYING MY EXCELLENT MARKETING SKILLS AND STRONG UNDERSTANDING AND CARE FOR AESTHETICS, TO PRODUCE CONTENT THAT WAS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN REACHING AND ENGAGING WITH AUDIENCES. MY ROLE AT LIVERPOOL ART FAIR ENABLED ME TO DEVELOP A GREATER UNDERSTANDING OF HOW DOT-ART OPERATES, AND I WAS INCREDIBLY PROUD TO BE A REPRESENTATIVE OF DOT-ART’S SMALL BUT POWERFUL TEAM, WORKING TO MAXIMISE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS ACROSS THE CITY REGION.

SEEING THE POSITIVE IMPACT THAT DOT-ART’S DYNAMIC AND ACCESSIBLE PLATFORM PROVIDES FOR LOCAL ARTISTS AND ART LOVERS, HAS ENHANCED MY PASSION AND DRIVEN MY DETERMINATION TO WORK WITH YOUR ORGANISATION, SUPPORTING THE LOCAL CREATIVE COMMUNITY AND LIVERPOOL’S ARTS ECOLOGY AS A WHOLE. I WOULD BE ESPECIALLY EXCITED TO JOIN THE ORGANISATION AT SUCH AN EXCITING TIME, WITH THE RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT OF DOT-ART’S PARTNERSHIP WITH THE READER AT CALDERSTONES MANSION. DOT-ART’S UNIQUE PROGRAMME OF ART CLASSES, WORKSHOPS AND SCHOOLS IS SOMETHING I AM EXTREMELY EAGER TO WORK ON AND SUPPORT.  CHAMPIONING CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION AND PROVIDING A UNIQUE INSIGHT INTO THE REGION’S CREATIVE TALENT MEANS A GREAT DEAL TO ME, WHICH IS WHY UNDERTAKING THIS ROLE WOULD BE A HUGE PERSONAL ENDEAVOUR.

YOU CAN BE ASSURED THAT I WOULD APPLY A HUGE AMOUNT OF ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM TO THIS ROLE. NOT ONLY WOULD YOU BE GAINING A TEAM MEMBER WHO HAS EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE AND RELEVANT SKILLS, YOU WOULD ALSO BE GAINING AN INDIVIDUAL WHO IS PASSIONATE AND EXCITED ABOUT CONNECTING SOME OF MERSEYSIDE’S MOST TALENTED LOCAL ARTISTS AND NON-ARTISTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITIES AND NETWORKS THAT DOT-ART HAS TO OFFER, AND I THEREFORE BELIEVE I WOULD BE A FANTASTIC AMBASSADOR FOR YOUR ORGANISATION.
